How do you like DIRECTV’s DVR?
A while back DIRECTV starting selling their own DVR rather than using TiVo. I really haven’t used it. I have the TiVo version. My mom recently switched to DIRECTV and said she didn’t have the same features that mine did - which really dissappointed her. I think it had to do with her not being about to record something and watch something else, or record two shows at once. I can’t remember for sure.
I’m curious though, has anyone here tried both? What do you like and dislike about the two?
directv/tivo vs. directv dvr
I had a tivo unit w/directv for approx 3 yrs, which I absolutely loved! Unfortunately. it went belly up one day. I requested a new one from directv, and was sent the latest dvr made by direct. Since they no longer use tivo, I installed this one. It is ok, but still lacks some of the ease of the tivo. Features on tivo seem much easier to access. Still, though, my daughter & son in law have dish, and my dvr works much faster and better than the dish. Also has more features. My expierience with directv has been for the most part, solid. Telephone conversations are answered quickly and most problems have been solved by the first person on the phone. Rarely do I ever need to go to a supervisor.
Still would rather have a tivo thogh….c’mon direct, get back in bed with tivo, you know you want to…
Your mom is right, Tivo is far superior. I regularly schedule two overlapping programs on the same channel in case the timing on the broadcast is wrong(which happens more often than one would like) and the Directv DVR cannot handle it, it simply cancels the prior program. This is just one of many failures on the supposed upgrade to Directv DVR. They need to work out their dispute with Tivo and revert back. You cannot jump between the end and beginning of a program, and forget jumping to book marks, With tivo, they are inserted in 15 or 30 min intervals, and you simply press a button when fast forwarding/rewinding to jump to them book mark. With Directv DVR, you must insert your own bookmarks and I have yet to figure out or have them tell me how to jump to them. When I called their customer services one time, they advise it was a known bug in my model and they hoped to address in the next two or so software upgrades. I could go on forever on the loss functionalities of the Directv DVR vs Tivo. I finally broke down and bought two used Directv/Tivo branded receivers on E-bay. I love them to death.
